At Deeper Stories Counseling, we help people in Colorado Springs move from surviving their story to engaging it. Whether you’re carrying trauma, wrestling with your faith, rebuilding a relationship, or simply sensing there’s a deeper story than the one you’re living, there is room here to slow down, be known, and heal. We offer faith-informed counseling from a Judeo-Christian perspective — for individuals, couples, and families — in person in downtown Colorado Springs and by secure video anywhere in Colorado.

We work from a settled conviction that you are not a problem to be managed but a person with a nature and a purpose. Healing, as we understand it, is not merely the quieting of symptoms — it’s the slow work of coming into alignment with what is real and growing toward what you were actually made for. That deeper picture of the human person quietly shapes everything we do.

We’re a private-pay practice led by two licensed clinicians, Joel A. Roberts, PhD, LPC, NCC, and Kaley L. Chiles, MA, LPC, LAC, with specialized training in trauma, spiritual abuse recovery, couples work, addiction, and the honest integration of faith and mental health. Your story is worth fighting for — and you don’t have to fight for it alone.

what we believe

Once upon a time, before the age of internet and social media, it was possible to see a counselor who disclosed almost nothing about themselves. This provided an opportunity for clients to project onto the therapist, which could be useful for the therapeutic process itself. As long as you don’t search your therapist on the internet and don’t read too deeply into this website, you can likely still have that experience and its benefits.

At the same time, today’s connectivity allows clients who desire to seek more information about their counselor to do so, which can afford clients a bit more of an opportunity to be an informed consumer prior to initiating a relationship with a counselor. We think this makes sense because as they say ‘everywhere you go, there you are’ and the counselor’s foundational beliefs will impact how they show up. Rest assured, your session is about your process, so we still seek to refrain from sharing about us in a way that distracts from that. We invite you, if you choose, to check out our What We Believe page, and learn a little about our philosophy of counseling.

it's time to start living in the story you were made for

What if there is a broader, more profound story? Far too often, we are the only witnesses to the tired old tales that we believe are unflinchingly true: stories where your good heart suffers unspeakable wounds; where you have fought valiantly to survive; fending off the assaults of both friend and foe.

To explore the deeper stories, you must abandon contempt for compassion. And from this compassionate stance, curiously and courageously engage your own heart while holding the same open posture toward others. It is in this tilled ground that authentic growth and change occur. Here is where creativity and connection are born, and the once solitary protagonist discovers that they are fighting in the company of a great multitude of heroes, each with their own story, each digging deeper.

Deeper Stories are the spaces that animate the soul and invite us into the adventure of a wholehearted life. We will walk with you, bearing witness to your story, while welcoming the light of truth and kindness into the narrative. Reach out and let us join you to cultivate and bless the next chapter of your deeper story.
